Awards given to individuals, Manufacturers and Intellectual Property Right Owners

In recognition of the valuable role played by various stakeholders, the Agency held it’s first of its kind awards to various categories of stakeholders during the commemoration of this year’s World Anti-Counterfeit Day. The winners who included organizations, companies and individuals were announced in Nairobi on June 26th 2018 at the Laico Regency Hotel.

Kenya’s Anti-Counterfeit Agency today held a high level consultative meeting to facilitate dialogue between government’s law enforcement agencies, the private sector, consumer organizations and civil society to forge a joint action and collaboration against counterfeits and other forms of illegal commerce.

The half day event was held at Boma hotel Nairobi was graced by the Principle Secretary for International Trade Dr. Chris Kiptoo and was attended by CEO’s and representatives from government enforcement agencies like the Kenya Revenue Authority, the Kenya Bureau of Standards among others.

The Anti- Counterfeit Agency (ACA) has partnered with the Nairobi City County Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licensing Board in sub- county stakeholders’ meetings to create awareness in war against illicit drinks in the county. The two have teamed up in a bid to create consumer awareness in order to curb and regulate alcoholic drinks-a menace that continues to damage families and lives of young and productive youths across the country.

Anti-Counterfeit Agency is currently undertaking Market Research on the following:

1. Market Research to determine the level of counterfeiting in selected towns in Kenya
   
   
2. Market Research to determine the level of public awareness on counterfeiting in selected towns in Kenya 

We are collecting data from manufacturers and consumers in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru and their environs.

A meeting on promotion of interagency collaboration in the fight against counterfeit goods was held in Nairobi on the 22nd January 2018. Organized by the Anti-Counterfeit Agency, the meeting was designed specifically for national government enforcement agencies dealing with the fight against counterfeits and protection of intellectual property in the country.

The Anti-Counterfeit Agency and the manufacturing sector welcomes the executive order from President Uhuru Kenyatta during this year’s Jamhuri Day address to the nation. He made it clear that the growth of the manufacturing sector is the first pillar among the ‘Big Four’ of creating employment.
The executive order to investigate infringements on intellectual property rights and destroy counterfeits on sight is a pro-growth order since counterfeits are a major impediment to the growth of the manufacturing sector.

Plant for bottling counterfeit alcohol raided as Anti-Counterfeit inspectors seized over 50,000 litres of fake spirits with a street value KSH 40 Million.

Inspectors from the Anti-Counterfeit Agency raided a home at the outskirts of Laare town in Meru County and arrested six people in an undercover operation. Around 50,000 LITRES worth KSH 40 Million of five different trademarks of spirits were seized from the premises on a farm yesterday evening.

Manufacturers decry rise in counterfeits as agency calls for more collaboration as Agency calls for deeper collaboration in fight against Counterfeit trade.

The Anti-Counterfeit Agency held a manufacturers forum at its headquarters in Nairobi where manufacturers and innovators came together in an incisive engagement to discuss better ways of engagement in the fight against counterfeits.

In alignment with our commitment to corporate social responsibility, this year, the agency was involved in planting trees at the counterfeit destruction site owned by Envirosafe EPZ Athi-River in Machakos County. On the sunny day of 21st July, the day of counterfeit destruction, amidst the bellowing smoke above the burning kilns, a group of close to 80 participants planted trees around the site.
