Award comes at a time when ACA has recently been elevated to a full Authority in December 2018, as per the Statutes Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act 2018

Nairobi, Tuesday 29th January 2019. The Anti-Counterfeit Authority was today recognized by Dolby Laboratories Inc. for the agency’s efforts in enhancing the protection of intellectual property rights.

The recognition comes at a time when the government, through the State Department of Trade has ramped up its efforts to combat illicit trade, through the Multi - Agency Anti-Illicit Trade Outreach (MAAITO). The multi-agency team coordinated from the Office of the President under the Deputy Head of Public Service, Mr. Wanyama Musiambo. This has seen building of synergizes and coordinated efforts of the different stakeholders with more than Ksh. 80 billion worth of illicit goods seized over a period of 4 months between June-September 2018.

The Executive Director of the Anti-Counterfeit Agency under the invitation of the Anti-Counterfeit Network based in Kampala attended the 1st CEO Structured Dialogue on COunterfeits. The event was graced by the chief justice of Uganda and CEOs from both public and private sector institutions with some of the participants coming from outside East Africa, more specifically Zimbabwe.

During the event anti-counterfeit resolutions that centre around legislation, regulation, enforcement, technology and communication were signed by various stakeholders.

The Anti-Counterfeit Agency (ACA) has today signed a financing agreement worth US Dollars One Million Five Hundred Thousand ($1,500,000) towards supporting digitalisation of its operations and services. The funding comes from the UK Department for International Development (DFID) channeled through TradeMark East Africa (TMEA), who will provide technical and project financing support to the Agency with the aim to better and efficiently serve their stakeholders nationally, regionally and globally. 

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs. Flora Mutahi as the new Chairperson and member to our Board of Directors. This was effective as of Friday, July, 13, 2018. She takes over from Mr. Pradeep Paunrana.

Mrs. Flora Mutahi is a Kenyan accountant, entrepreneur and corporate executive. She is the Chairperson of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers a position she has held since July 2016 and the first woman to occupy that office as the Chairperson. She is also the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Melvin Marsh International Limited, the manufacturer of Melvin’s Tea, a Kenyan brand.

ACA on the front line against trade in counterfeits

The Anti-Counterfeit Agency (ACA) held the global commemoration of the World Anti-Counterfeiting Day(WACD) in Nairobi on 26th June 2018 through a series of awareness activities. The day started with a stakeholders’ grand march along the streets of Nairobi from the Agency’s headquarters along Dunga Road, Industrial area to Laico Hotel in Central Business District of Nairobi.

This was followed by a public–private sector interactive symposium with participants drawn from policy makers and implementers in the public sector, and the private sector.
The symposium gathered close to 300 people in a conference themed: ‘Combating Counterfeiting: A National Priority in catalyzing the ‘Big Four Agenda’ in Kenya!

Meeting brought together participants drawn from the public and private sector involved in combating counterfeits in the country.

On June 26th, 2018, the Anti-Counterfeit Agency brought together government agencies, manufacturers, business leaders, and policymakers to commemorate the World Anti-Counterfeit Day and specifically to honor certain sections of her stakeholders that have made outstanding contributions towards the delivery of her mandate. KAM was among the select categories acknowledged at this prestigious event, and honored for “Outstanding Support in Combating Counterfeiting”.

The Anti-Counterfeit Agency was recently awarded the internationally-recognized ISO 9001:2015 Certification award during the World Anti-Counterfeit Day 2018 commemoration on the 28th June 2018 at the Laico Regency Hotel Nairobi. The certification recognizes the Agency’s commitment to offer world-class quality service and to operate and implement a Quality Management System based on the ISO 9001:2015 system.

Nation Media Group journalist James Kariuki has been recognized in the daily newspaper category award for his consistency in writing about the plight of local manufacturers amidst the scourges of trade in counterfeits and illicit trade in general. He has a firm grasp in writing on trade, manufacturing and intellectual property issues in the Nation Newspaper Daily Edition, Business Daily as well as the online news of the leading regional Newspaper.

In recognition of the valuable role played by various stakeholders, the Agency held it’s first of its kind awards to various categories of stakeholders during the commemoration of this year’s World Anti-Counterfeit Day. The winners who included organizations, companies and individuals were announced in Nairobi on June 26th 2018 at the Laico Regency Hotel.
