Suspected Counterfeit Nike-Branded Sneakers Seized in Eldoret
The Anti-counterfeit Authority has seized a consignment of suspected counterfeit Nike-branded sneakers following an inspection conducted in Eldoret Town as part of ongoing efforts to curb the trade in counterfeit goods across the country. The inspection, led by the Eldoret Regional Manager, Mr. Peter Wanjala, resulted in the seizure of several pairs of sneakers suspected to be counterfeit.
The sneakers were seized from a retail outlet operating under the name Shoez Collection, with the inspection and inventory process conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Anti-Counterfeit Act, 2008. An inventory of the seized goods was prepared on site and witnessed to ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance with established inspection and seizure procedures.
The Eldoret Regional Manager, Mr. Peter Wanjala, cautioned traders and members of the public against engaging in the trade of counterfeit products.
“Counterfeit products pose serious risks to consumers and undermine legitimate businesses. We urge traders to ensure that all products offered for sale are genuine and sourced from legitimate channels, as enforcement operations within the region will continue,” said Mr. Wanjala.
The Anti-Counterfeit Authority reiterates its commitment to safeguarding consumers and supporting legitimate trade, and warns that dealing in counterfeit goods whether knowingly or unknowingly exposes individuals and businesses to serious legal, financial, and reputational consequences.
What Is a Counterfeit Product?
A counterfeit product is a good that is manufactured, imported, distributed, or sold without the authorization of the rightful owner of a trademark, brand, or other intellectual property rights. Such products often imitate genuine goods in appearance, name, or branding with the intention of misleading consumers. The manufacture, importation, distribution, or sale of counterfeit goods is an offence under the Anti-Counterfeit Act, 2008.
