The Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner General, Mr Humphrey Wattanga, played host to the CEOs of the Kenya Bureau of Standards Ms. Easther Ngari and Dr. Robi Mbugua Njoroge of the Anti-Counterfeit Authority at his office at Times Towers in Nairobi.
The meeting discussed avenues of strengthening existing collaboration between the agencies tasked with combating counterfeiting and illicit trade while at the same time enhancing ease of doing business and importation efficiency.
The discussions centred on streamlining processes to facilitate fair trade, protect consumers from harmful trade in counterfeit and substandard imports, and facilitate smoother trade operations in the country.
They also discussed the recommendations arising from a meeting between Kenya’s Deputy President H.E. Rigathi Gachagua and small-scale traders last month to facilitate a fair-trade environment for the traders.
By enhancing collaboration between the government agencies, the government aims to tackle the persistent challenge of counterfeit and illicit trade that not only undermines consumer confidence but also poses significant risks to public health and safety.
The partnerships underscore the government's commitment to creating a business-friendly environment while safeguarding the interests of consumers and businesses alike.
