Nairobi, Kenya – The Anti-Counterfeit Authority and Kenya Industrial Property Institute joins the world in celebrating World Intellectual Property Day (WAPD) on April 26, 2023. The WAPD aims to raise public awareness of the role of intellectual property rights in encouraging innovation and creativity.

This year’s theme is: “Women and IP: Accelerating Innovating and Creativity” gives focus to the role of women promotion of creativity and innovation for social- economic development of the society.

The day provides an opportunity for women to show-case their Innovation and creativity and inspire to other women around the world about their scientific or IP breakthroughs in transforming the world. In addition, it provides a platform to share experiences and challenges by women who have conquered the IP ecosystem so as to encourage other women to to benefit from owning their IP.

The Anti-Counterfeit Authority Executive Director Dr. Robi Njoroge Mbugua in a statement said this year’s theme resonates with government commitment to affirmative action to address gender inequality in the IP Ownership that has more IP owned by men as opposed to women.

“We are calling for more women owned IP in all businesses including the value addition of agricultural sector and women-led businesses”.

ACA and other government agencies and private sector IP enthusiasts celebrated by holding virtual meeting based on the theme of the day and to provide information to the public on the role of IP and in particular, on avenues available to women to exploit the IP system.
