In recent years, Kenya has experienced a surge in counterfeit goods consumption. Consumers have been enticed by lower prices and readily available counterfeit products, often unable to distinguish them from genuine ones. This trend can be attributed to several factors, including economic pressures, lack of awareness, and limited access to authentic goods.

This study was carried out in the financial year 2022-23 in Nairobi County. The objectives of the study included; to establish the level of understanding on counterfeit matters among consumers in Kenya, establish consumer experience in buying counterfeits off and online, determine effective anti-counterfeit campaign strategies and counterfeit cases reporting and to identify solutions to challenges faced by consumers in counterfeiting matters. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were employed in this study.

The study reveals that majority of consumers purchased counterfeit products from retail shops and hawkers. Some of the factors influencing purchase behavior include the price and brand of a product.

Some of the recommendations suggested include having targeted and comprehensive awareness campaigns using various media channels. Collaborations and information sharing to all stakeholders involved. This study underscores the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to address the rising trends in counterfeiting among Kenyan consumers. It emphasizes the importance of educating consumers, enhancing regulatory measures, and fostering partnerships between various stakeholders to safeguard public health, promote economic growth, and ensure the integrity of Kenya's markets.
