The Anti-Counterfeit Authority is pleased to announce the launch of the National Strategy to combat Illicit Trade in an event hosted by State Department of Trade in collaboration with other stakeholders on 20th June 2019 at Crowne Plaza, Nairobi. 

The event was graced by the Permanent Secretary, State Department of Trade, Dr. Chris Kiptoo, and brought together representatives from all the agencies represented in the Anti-Illicit Trade Multi-Agency Team as well as the private sector led by the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) and the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA). 

The plan called, ‘The National Action Plan and Implementation Framework to Combat Illicit Trade 2019/2020 - 2021/2022’, was developed through public participation involving private sector representation and the other government agencies under the auspices of the Inter Agency Technical Working Group to address illicit trade by H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, the President of the Republic of Kenya.

The detailed report has thematic approaches to address illicit trade through identified weakness in the previous strategies. It seeks to address; weaknesses in the regulatory regimes, uncoordinated enforcement mechanisms, limited resources by the agencies, low catch up with technological advancements, low consumer awareness, inadequate screening of cargo, long unmanned borders, among others.
