Validation of National Strategy to Combat Illicit Trade

Event on the validation of the First National Strategy to combat illicit trade for the next five years. 

The validation forum follows the need for a structured engagement within government agencies and the private sector in the fight against illicit trade took place on 5th March 2019 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Nairobi. 

The purpose of this consultation was primarily to gather stakeholder’s input on the proposed strategy in the fight against illicit trade in the country.

The interactive forum rated highly in terms of attendance participation, with over 100 participants from the government and the private sector. The participant’s feedback will be carefully analyzed and taken into account before the main launch of the strategy. 

The event was graced by the Principal Secretary, State Department of Trade, Dr. Chris Kiptoo, other government representatives from the Anti-Illicit trade framework that is coordinated from the Cabinet Office by Mr. Wanyama Musiambo the Deputy Head of Public Service. The private sector was led by the Kenya Association of Manufacturers(KAM), Retail Traders of Kenya (Retrak), among others. Dr. Kiptoo praised the increased participation of the private sector in policy development and implementation of fair trade issues in the country by the government.
